The Henderson Silver Knights had five power plays, 31 shots and 65 minutes to put the game away. Instead, they left Tucson with one point and a reminder that the smallest gaps still matter this time of year.
Henderson’s seven-game winning streak ended Friday night as the Silver Knights fell 2-1 in a shootout to the Tucson Roadrunners at Tucson Convention Center Arena. The game finished 1-1 after regulation and overtime before Tucson won the shootout 2-1.
Henderson put itself shorthanded one minute into the game on a too-many-men bench minor. Tucson cashed in quickly, with Miko Matikka scoring a power-play goal at 2:32 to make it 1-0.
From there, Henderson settled in and started stacking looks, but the power play never broke through. The Silver Knights finished 0-for-5 with the extra skater, and that empty space on the scoresheet hung over the rest of the night.
Kai Uchacz tied it at 5:25 of the second, scoring his 19th off a setup from Braeden Bowman and Jeremy Davies. It was Henderson’s cleanest finish of the night, and it pulled the game back to even after Tucson carried the early edge in shots.

Neither side found another one in regulation. Henderson got three shots in overtime, but Jaxson Stauber held firm and pushed the game to the skills competition.
Matyas Sapovaliv was the only Silver Knight to score in the shootout, but Tucson got goals from Sammy Walker and Austin Poganski to end it. Trevor Connelly, Bowman and Ben Hemmerling were turned aside for Henderson, while Max Szuber and Andrew Agozzino missed for Tucson.
Carl Lindbom made 34 saves on 35 shots in the shootout loss. Stauber stopped 30 of 31 for Tucson.
Henderson still closes the regular season in control of its overall form. This was the first time the Silver Knights did not win in their last eight games, a run that included wins over Tucson, Coachella Valley, San Jose and Bakersfield. Still, Friday was a sharp example of what tight games become when the power play does not deliver.
Henderson wraps the regular season with one more road game at Tucson at 7 p.m. MST Saturday, April 18. The Silver Knights will then turn the page to the Calder Cup playoffs shortly after the regular season ends.
