The Dallas Stars are wasting no time in retaining a pair of defensemen who provide solid organizational depth, as the team announced on Wednesday that it has agreed to terms on two-year contract extensions with Kyle Capobianco and Luke Krys.

General manager Jim Nill and his front office signed Capobianco to a one-way deal that will carry a salary cap hit of $875,000, while Krys inked a two-way contract. The team did not release details about the compensation Krys will receive.

Capobianco, who got acclimated to NHL action with limited runs over five seasons with the Arizona Coyotes, was pressed into duty this season due to injuries, ultimately appearing in 33 games with Dallas in which he tallied five points on two goals and three assists.

“Kyle brings size, mobility and offensive instincts to our blue line.” Nill said via the team’s press release of Capobianco. “His depth and flexibility will help us moving forward and we’re excited to have him for two more years.”

The six-foot-three 28-year-old native of Ontario was a second-round selection in the 2015 NHL Draft by the Coyotes.

Krys, a 25-year-old from Connecticut originally joined the Stars’ organization by signing as an undrafted free agent who played his collegiate hockey at Brown University and Providence College.

Next year will be his fourth campaign as a member of Dallas’ AHL affiliate Texas Stars. In the 2025-26 season, Krys posted 16 points in 40 games in the regular season followed by two points in five contests during the Calder Cup Playoffs.

With some additional depth on defense secured, Nill still has plenty to do this offseason. Most notably, star winger Jason Robertson is in need of a new contract, one that would far exceed double figures. With just $9.24 million in cap space, according to PuckPedia, Nill will either need to find a way to create additional space or ensure the best possible return in a trade.
