With the 208th selection in the 2025 NHL Draft, the Calgary Flames have selected Jakob Leander, a right handed defenceman out of Sweden that played for HV71’s J18 and J20 clubs this past season.
Season | Team | League | GP | G | A | P |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
2024–25 | HV71 J18 | J18 Region | 13 | 0 | 4 | 4 |
HV71 J18 | J18 Nationell | 6 | 0 | 1 | 1 | |
HV71 J20 | J20 Nationell | 39 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Jakob Leander is a right shot defenceman who played games this season for both the J20 and J18 HV71 clubs in the Swedish league. With little to no offensive stats in roughly 60 games this past season, Leander, and his 6’4″ 200lb stature looks to be another stay-at-home defenceman for the Flames in the 2025 NHL Draft.
Leander does not have any commitments to play outside of Europe next season. It appears the 18-year-old will stay in Sweden next season with the J20 club. As a late 7th rounder, it will be a long road to the NHL for Leander.
