The Vancouver Canucks GM position is still desirable despite some chaos, as it allows someone to put their stamp on a team, and it will come with some longevity
Daily Faceoff: David Pagnotta, on the Vancouver Canucks GM search. It’s a desirable job for someone, as it allows someone to put their stamp on a franchise, and you have a bit of cushion/longevity, as it does take years to rebuild.
Pagnotta: “Jamie Langenbrunner is a guy that has spoken with Nashville. He spoke with the Devils before they made their decision. He’s an AGM in, in Boston. He looks to be on the trajectory to be a GM at some point down the line. So I’m curious about him, if they go in that direction.
We know Ryan Bowness is another one on Long Island. Is AGM with the Islanders. He’s on their radar, too. We’re probably going to start to hear more names, or not start, because we are here, but we’re going to continue to hear more names Irf, with respect to potential candidates.
Because you’re right, this is a very desirable job. Especially when you’re dealing with a rebuild, because there’s a couple of things. One, obviously, you put your stamp on it, and you could have a really big say with how this team is going to be going moving forward.
The Vancouver Canucks GM List About to Get a Little Smaller
The other thing is longevity. You’ve got a runway here. When you’re rebuilding, there is a pathway. Like, this isn’t a we’re rebuilding, and if we don’t see serious progress in two years, you’re out of here. Like there is, you’ve got cushion, because you’re going through this rebuild.”
Irfaan Gaffar: “The longer it goes for the Vancouver Canucks, I think the less and less likely it becomes that Ryan Johnson is named the GM of this team. I think that he’s a guy that is right under your nose. A guy that you know. A guy that you could turn the keys of the franchise over to right away. You have a choice to do that if you want, and it’s a very, very easy choice.
You know, you don’t have to do any interviews. You have your guy right there if you want. I just think, the longer this goes, the less likely it is that Ryan Johnson is the GM of this team. Will remain as Assistant General Manager, obviously, because he’s under contract, but we’ll see what happens again. Like, I said, I just think that they’re going to go with experience.”
