TNT, truTV and MAX are all over Alexander Ovechkin's quest to break the the scoring record of 'The Great One,' Wayne Gretzky.

TNT Sports will showcase the Washington Capitals’ Alexander Ovechkin as his #Gr8Chase toward breaking the NHL’s career goal-scoring record – now just five away from surpassing Wayne Gretzky’s mark – moves forward this week.

Ovechkin, the Washington Capitals' captain, is chasing Gretzky's legendary record of 894 career NHL goals. Ovechkin currently has 890 goals, needing just five more to surpass Gretzky and become the all-time leader. It's an exciting moment in hockey history, and fans are eagerly watching his progress.

TNT is pulling out all the stops in wall-to-wall coverage of a record once thought unbreakable. Wednesday April 2, 2025 TNT will feature a big double-header broadcast.

Ovechkin and the Capitals will have two games with traditional broadcasts on TNT and Max this week – vs. the Carolina Hurricanes with a pregame show starting at 6:30 p.m. The studio crew led by NHL on TNT Faceoff show with the team of Henrik Lundqvist, Paul Bissonnette, Anson Carter and Liam McHugh.

Then the game starts Wednesday at 7 p.m. with the hardest working play by play man in broadcasting Kenny Albert who will be joined by Eddie Olczyk and Brian Boucher. The nightcap will feature Colorado Avalanche at Chicago Blackhawks wth the broadcast team of Brendan Burke (pxp), Darren Pang and Jackie Redmond on hand at the United Center.

Closing the night will be NHL on TNT Postgame Show with the pregame team of Lundqvist, Bissonnette, Carterand McHugh back in studio for a recap. 

Sunday TNT will start their tripple-header off at 11:30 a.m. A Clean Sheet: Gabe Landeskog Episode 4: Opening Night. 

At high noon ET the Ovi watch continues with NHL on TNT Faceoff in the studio with Rick Bowness, Paul Bissonnette, Anson Carterand Liam McHugh back on set.

Then 12:30 p.m. the Capitals will play host to the New York Islanders on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. ET. At the Capital One Area in Washington, D.C. with Kenny Albert (pxp), Eddie Olczyk, Brian Boucher & Tarik El-Bashir.

At 3 p.m. the action moves to Minnesota where Dallas will face the Stars in a key battle. On the call will be BrendenBurke (pxp), Shane Hnidy and Darren Pang.

The tripple-header concludes at 6:30 p.m. Florida Panthers at Detroit Red Wings and doing the honors in "the Motor City," will be the team of Alex Faust (pxp), Jennifer Botterill and Jackie Redmond.

On Wednesday night and Sunday afternoon Capitals game with TNT producing an Ovechkin-focused alternative telecast of both Capitals games – The OviCast – featuring an isolated camera on Ovechkin for the duration of each contest on truTV and Max. The OviCast will display Ovechkin’s live stats, his historical numbers and on-ice audio from the NHL on TNT broadcast.

Bleacher Report and B/R Open Ice will also have wall-to-wall coverage of the #Gr8Chase as Ovechkin nears the historic milestone. So, hockey fans will not miss any of the record breakng excitment.
