Toronto Maple Leafs Make Official Decision on Brendan Shanahan After Playoff Exit

After 11 years of playoff failures in Toronto, the Maple Leafs have officially announced they are parting ways with Brendan Shanahan as President.

Many within the Toronto Maple Leafs organization believed that 2025 would be their year to make a deep Stanley Cup run, but after being eliminated in the second round, they're once again sitting at home ahead of a crucial off-season.

The latest failure reportedly had MLSE furious, and after a board meeting, they've finally come to the decision that many fans believe should have been made long before now.

According to reports, the team are officially moving on from President Brendan Shanahan, who has been with the team in that capacity for 11 years now, but with just two series wins in nine Stanley Cup Playoffs appearances in that time, he will be remembered as one of the biggest failures in franchise history.

The Maple Leafs then confirmed the report, and although they'll be retaining Brad Treliving and Craig Berube, they've made it official that they are moving on from Shanahan, who would quickly release a statement about his time in Toronto.

Unsurprisingly, he had nothing but good things to say about his home in Toronto and the Maple Leafs organization, but after going through several coaches and General Managers, it was just time to move on from him and try something new.

Sure, all the blame can't be placed on Shanahan, as Kyle Dubas and Treliving made some decisions in recent years in building this team, but for over a decade, he was one constant with the organization as they failed time and time again.

Now, only time will tell what changes the Maple Leafs organization will look to make both on and off the ice to take a step forward in 2025/26 and beyond, but for now, all we know is they'll have a new face as President in the very near future.
