The Toronto Maple Leafs suffered a 6-5 overtime loss to the Detroit Red Wings last night to conclude their preseason schedule. Today, they placed four players on waivers, hoping to assign them to their AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies. The four on waivers are forward Michael Pezzetta, and three defenseman Matt Benning, Dakota Mermis, and Henry Thrun.

Pezzetta played in 25 games for the Canadiens last season but was held pointless; he finished with a minus-two.
Benning played in seven games for the Sharks last season and was held pointless. In 39 games for the Marlies in the AHL, he recorded eight points on a goal and seven assists; he finished as a plus-ten.

Mermis played in four NHL games last season, one with Utah and three with the Maple Leafs. He recorded an assist and finished as a minus-two. In 32 games for the Marlies, he recorded seven assists, finishing with a plus-eight.
Thrun played in 60 games for the Sharks, recording 12 points on two goals and ten assists. He was a -23. The Maple Leafs acquired him in the trade for Ryan Reaves.
