Many teams who were looking to find a head coach already hired a new one: the Philadelphia Flyers with Rick Tocchet, the Vancouver Canucks with Adam Foote, the Seattle Kraken with Lane Lambert, the New York Rangers with Mike Sullivan, the Chicago Blackhawks with Jeff Blashill, and the Anaheim Ducks with Joel Quenneville.
Only the Boston Bruins and the Pittsburgh Penguins still need to hire a new coach.
Last week, Pierre LeBrun confirmed that Luke Richardson, Marco Sturm, Jay Woodcroft, as well as the Bruins' interim Joe Sacco,
all interviewed for the job:
'On Bruins' coaching search, my understanding is final interviews will be conducted next week and then a decision to come after that. Not sure who made the cut. Boston has talked to a lot of people. Marco Sturm, Jay Woodcroft, Mitch Love, Luke Richardson, Joe Sacco, Jay Leach among those believed to have interviewed...'
Now, in a new development, we learned that the Bruins reached another step in the hiring process.
In a new post on X, LeBrun confirmed that all final interviews were held last week, and that the management trimmed the list of candidates to two.
While the two candidates' identities weren't confirmed by LeBrun, we can guess that their names were in the list he provided last week.
After controversially parting ways with Jim Montgomery during the season to replace him with Joe Sacco, the Bruins will hope to get a coach who'll be able to bring the team back on the right track fast.
The Bruins had a tough season, ending the year at the final spot in the Atlantic Division, only two years after having the best record in NHL history.
Expectations will be high in Boston for whoever ends up getting the job.
