The Montreal Canadiens have some really good forward prospects in the NCAA that get a lot of attention, such as L.J. Mooney and Michael Hage; however, there is another prospect, Logan Sawyer, who is having a great sophomore season at Providence College that seems to be going under the radar. The Habs’ 3rd round pick currently leads the Providence Friars in points with 5 goals and 14 points in 16 games so far this season.

The reason we hear a lot less about what Sawyer is doing at Providence is likely because of him being a mid-round pick, therefore giving him less attention than someone like Hage but also being nowhere close to as flashy as someone like Mooney. Nonetheless, Sawyer plays a very solid two-way game that can often go unnoticed. His game is more centred on being a grinding forward that will work hard at both ends of the ice.
Couple #Habs prospects to look out for:
Bryce Pickford: lighting up the WHL. 22 goals in 29 games as a defenseman. 40 pts. And that's without Gavin McKenna.
Logan Sawyer: took him time to adjust but he currently has 14pts in 16 NCAA games. He had 16pts in 37 games last year.

Playing on a line with Chicago Blackhawks prospect John Mustard and recent 1st-round pick of the Anaheim Ducks Roger McQueen, Sawyer has really upped his production in his 2nd NCAA season, after scoring just 6 goals and 16 points in 37 games during his freshman season with the team.
What’s really impressive about how Sawyer is producing is just how consistent he has been, as he’s found the scoresheet in 12 of his 16 games this year and is currently on a 4-game point streak. With that being said, Sawyer has been very consistent when it comes to producing, having just 3 multi-point games. This is part of why his performance has been so underrated so far this season.
Logan Sawyer picks up 1A, his 14 PT on the season in 16 GMs. Had one shot just miss trickling in as it sat near the goal line. Later he almost had a tap in goal. https://t.co/eD00uDFVvD

This consistency in his game can allow him to eventually challenge other more popular Habs prospects for roles in the team’s bottom six or could be a good piece in a potential trade down the road. If he ever is involved in a trade, he will surely need to continue to develop before he could really have any value on the market. Either way, Sawyer has the intangibles and work ethic to eventually find himself in an NHL role.
His play this season is honestly helping move his way up the prospect rankings, as he’s looked much better than someone like Aatos Koivu for example, who has yet to really show much progress offensively in Liiga, as he only has 2 goals and 7 points in 30 games. Meanwhile, Sawyer is going to shatter his 16-point total that he had last season. In all honesty, he should be able to double his point totals if he stays healthy.
#GoHabsGo prospect Logan Sawyer off to a sneaky good year so far. 2 goals tonight brings him to a PPG pace so far this season.
Looks much more confident, Leaman takes his time with players but his ability to develop is fantastic. https://t.co/btB04oSMph

At the very least, Sawyer is 3-4 years away from being able to compete for a spot in the Canadiens’ bottom six, but if he continues to be a hard worker who is good at both ends of the ice, he will likely be able to find his way to the NHL level at some point.
Sawyer should be an interesting prospect that could continue to move up the ranks of Habs prospects over the next few years, as someone who could eventually sneak into the top 10 Habs prospects at some point.
