We have more news from the Vancouver Canucks trade front. Conor Garland, a dependable veteran forward, has been traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for two draft picks. It is no surprise that teams were in on Garland due to his hard-working, gritty style of play. For the Blue Jackets, this is a solid pickup as they navigate the final month and a half of the regular season, pushing for a Stanley Cup Playoff spot.

In 50 games this season, he has scored seven goals and 19 assists for 26 points. The Scituate, Massachusetts, native has played in 535 games in his career, recording 129 goals and 188 assists for 317 points. He was re-signed to a six-year contract extension on July 1, 2025, worth $6 million dollars per season. That contract will kick at the end of the 2025-26 season, on July 1, 2026, where he will also have a no-movement clause as part of the contract.
The Blue Jackets are receiving a highly-skilled player, who can be a role model for teammates. He plays hard every shift, forechecks hard, and wins more puck battles than not. Despite his short stature, he has proven that he can still compete with players much larger than him. A truly versatile forward who has had a good story in the NHL so far.
The Canucks are receiving a 2028 second-round draft pick and a 2026 third-round draft pick in return. Future pieces are essential for the Canucks as they rebuild, and any draft picks from this year are welcome. This return is less than what fans were hoping for, as a first-round pick would be the ideal return. Still, the Canucks traded Garland before his no-movement clause kicks in on July 1st of this year.
Vancouver’s trade deadline will continue to be busy as we approach Friday, so stay tuned for more Canucks news.
