Vancouver Canucks Trade Options Involving Elias Petterson and JT Miller

The Vancouver Canucks continue to make waves in the rumor mill. Even as the team continues to compete for a playoff spot in the Western Conference, the story and conflict between J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson is not going away. As a matter of fact, there are multiple trade options that may involve these players.

As Full Press Hockey has reported, the Canucks, under the President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford and General Manager Patrik Allvin, have always looked to be ahead of the trade market. Vancouver is looking to change up their roster. Management feels the mix is off with this group. You can see their play on the ice has dipped.

The team wants this Miller and Pettersson situation to go away. Despite what the players have stated, you can clearly see there is an issue in the room. There will be a solution either via trade or them figuring out how to work together.

Vancouver Canucks Have Three Trade Options on the Table

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet on Hockey Night in Canada’s Saturday Headlines segment confirmed that the Canucks have been calling around and gauging the market on both players. They have multiple trade options on the table.

“So in calling around, this is what I can tell is that the Canucks are definitely, definitely looking at the market for both players, and you should be prepared for all outcomes,” Friedman said. “There is really three of them. Neither gets dealt, one of them gets dealt, or both get dealt. That’s on the table. I don’t want to predict the likelihood of any particular scenario, but I think all three of those outcomes are possible.”

In addition to those options being on the table, Friedman states that if the Canucks are willing to trade or both players, they will be looking to get a center in return, despite the reports of Vancouver looking to add on defence.

“Other things I can tell just from making the calls. I think if the Canucks do make a trade, they’re going to need a center in return. I know the Canucks fans right now are concerned about the defence with (Quinn) Hughes and (Filip) Hronek injured, but I believe the team has prioritized center in return more than the blue line because, obviously, they’d be trading a center if, one or both was to go,” Friedman said. “So, as part of the package, I would assume it would be a package back for either of those two players. A center would be the priority as part of it. And Ron, one of the thing, there have been some reports that maybe someone in Vancouver has asked for a trade. I can find no proof of that at this point.”

Could the New York Rangers Be One of the Vancouver Canucks Trade Options?

As Full Press Hockey has documented, the Canucks are the only team looking to change things up. Another team that is looking to mix things up is the New York Rangers. Mika Zibanejad has been the subject of trade speculation recently, as there is a chance the team could ask him to waive his no-movement clause.

There was some talk that if the Rangers and Canucks were to make a trade, it would see Miller going to New York for Zibanejad. However, if that were the case, this deal would have been done already.

With the Four Nations Faceoff a little over a month away, expect things to heat up in the trade market. However, expect the Vancouver Canucks to execute one of their trade options. Whether Elias Pettersson or J.T. Miller get traded is another story. However, there are multiple options on the table.
