Vasily Podkolzin has been unreal for the Edmonton Oilers, especially in the Playoffs

It was not too long ago, on August 18, 2024, when the Edmonton Oilers acquired Vasily Podkolzin from the Vancouver Canucks. Podkolzin was acquired in exchange for a fourth round selection in this year’s NHL draft which was previously acquired from the Ottawa Senators.

Podkolzin’ first season in the Orange and Blue

Vasily Podkolzin played a complete 82 game season for the first time in his career. The last time that he dressed in this many games, was his rookie season in 2021-22 with the Vancouver Canucks. This season with the Edmonton Oilers, Podkolzin almost had a career year but only ended up with eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points. His career best came in his rookie season as well, where he produced 14 goals and 12 assists for 26 points in 79 games played.

Noticable to mention, is that Podkolzin had the highest penalty minutes in a season for the first time in his career with 48 respectively. With the Oilers as well, he has been averaging the most time on ice with 13:13 per game. Podkolzin had 114 shots on the net this season – 115 total in 2021-22 – and had two game winning goals as well.

Podkolzin has hit another gear in the playoffs

So far, the 2025 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs have been nothing short of excellent for Vasily Podkolzin. Currently in his second playoffs appearance and first with the Oilers in his first season, Podkolzin has been able to heat up and find another gear that has seen him have so much success.

With the Edmonton Oilers currently rocking a six game winning streak, Podkolzin has played eight games total so far and has produced in a big way with one goal and five assists for six points this post-season. He also has one goal and three assists for four points in his last four games. Another thing to mention, is that Vasily Podkolzin has been doing this all as a fourth line winger.

What’s next for the “potential” star forward?

With all the success that Vasily Podkolzin has been able to accomplish in the playoffs, where can he go from here? We are seeing the potential for him to turn into a star forward and produce big goals and points for the Oilers.

Podkolzin is definitely trending in the right direction, and we will see what else he is able to accomplish in the Oilers post-season quest for the Stanley Cup.
