A veteran NHL forward has a new contract. News emerged that Jack Roslovic has signed a new deal with the Edmonton Oilers. This deal is for one year. The agreement has an average salary cap hit of $1.5 million and makes him a free agent next summer.

Jack Roslovic Signed by the Edmonton Oilers

Roslovic has played for the Winnipeg Jets, Columbus Blue Jackets, New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes over his nine-year NHL career. The Columbus, Ohio native totaled 22 goals and 17 assists for 39 points in 81 games this season. He had an average ice time of 13 minutes and 49 seconds in the last campaign. Roslovic had a Corsi for of 60.9 and a relative Corsi of 2.9.

He has accumulated 102 goals and 158 assists for 260 points in 526 career games. Winnipeg originally drafted him in the first round, 25th overall of the 2015 NHL Draft. This season saw him tie a career-high in goals with 22, which he also registered in 2021-22 with the Blue Jackets.

Roslovic has also represented his native country on the international level. He was part of the gold-medal winning Team USA squad at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championships.

What It Means

Last season saw the veteran forward hit the 20-plus goal mark for the second time in his career. Roslovic signed a one-year deal at $2.8 million as sort of a gamble on himself. It looks like that gamble has paid off and the veteran gets to cash.

The Ohio native was a pleasant surprise for the Hurricanes and could be a sneaky-good signing. It’s hard to say if he’ll get to the 20-goal mark, but he does have good possession metrics.

Roslovic could settle into a nice role in the middle-six of a forward group. He’s bounced around the last few seasons, but this deal could be a chance for him to settle in. If he can provide value for the Oilers and they ensure post-season success, maybe he can earn a new contract next summer.
