Vegas Golden Knights forward Tanner Laczynski scored his first goal since Dec. 5, 2022 in a 3-1 victory against the Buffalo Sabres at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday.
It was his fifth career point (three goals).
“Honestly, anytime you score a goal, it’s special,” Laczynski said. “But, I mean, doing it here in this building, it makes it that much better.”
Laczynski entered the lineup against the Sabres when Victor Olofsson was ruled out with an illness. He was called up on Thursday for this specific purpose. He played along side Brett Howden and Keegan Kolesar against the Sabres.
Laczynski was among one of the last cuts in the preseason after playing well in training camp. He’s played most of the season in the American Hockey League with the Henderson Silver Knights. He has 20 points (six goals and 14 assists) in 18 games in the AHL.
“He’s been good down in Henderson, so we’re trying to reward and play him,” Golden Knights coach Bruce Cassidy said. “Big goal for him. Happy for him, right? Different guys are contributing for us, especially in this run. He got it going to the net. Wasn’t lucky. It was good play. Good play all around.”
Whether Laczynski stays up is now a question of health, Olofsson should be expected back soon, as will Ivan Barbashev and Nicolas Roy, meaning his time in the NHL might be limited. But until then, Laczynski will provide the Golden Knights with a valuable depth player.
