One of the greatest players in the history of the Toronto Maple Leafs returned to his old stomping grounds, but in a slightly different capacity.

On Saturday night, All Elite Wrestling held its All Out premier live event at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. One of the marquee matches of the night saw Orangeville, Ont. native Adam Copeland (formerly known as Edge) team up with his longtime friend Jay Reso, known by his in-ring persona as Christian Cage, going up against the tag team of Cash Wheeler and Dax Sheppard, better known as FTR.

On their way into the arena, Copeland was in awe of the pictures in the hallway leading to the dressing room. He and Christian stopped at a picture of former Leafs captain Wendel Clark. Copeland began reminiscing about one of his favorite players of all time.

“Wendel Clark,” Copeland said. “Toughest man alive. Toughest hockey player of all time. Mr. Maple Leaf. My favorite player of all time – Wendel Clark.”

Then, who should appear in front of the two wrestling legends? None other than Wendel Clark himself.

“Wendel Clark?” Copeland questioned, stunned.

“Hey boys,” Clark exclaimed. “Go for the throat out there tonight.”

“We will,” Copeland responded. “We will, Clarky! Can I call you Clarky?”

“Clarky, it is.”

“I can call him Clarky,” Copeland said giddily.

That wasn’t the only guest that Copeland and Christian ran into prior to the show. Canadian actor Mike Smith appeared playing his famous role of Bubbles from Trailer Park Boys. Along with Bubbles trying to give the tag team some help, his character’s wrestling persona, “The Green Bastard,” made an appearance as well, giving the boys a pep talk.

The words of wisdom spurred on the legendary duo, who became one of the greatest tag teams of all time during the WWE’s “Attitude Era” in the late ’90s and early 2000s. Copeland and Cage won their match later that night, though things ended when Copeland’s wife, Beth Copeland, received a piledriver in a post-match attack.

Clark is unquestionably the most popular Maple Leaf of all time. His spirited play, along with his ability to come up with a big goal, made him a fan favorite since the day he was drafted first overall in 1985. The longtime captain spent parts of 13 seasons with the Original Six franchise, sitting 10th all-time in goals with 260 as a Leaf, with his 1,535 penalty minutes placing him third in franchise history.
