Kirill Kaprizov could potentially extend in Minnesota this off-season, with a historic deal on the way after it was revealed extension talks are set to begin.
For the past 12 months, the expectation around the National Hockey League has been that the Minnesota Wild will lock in superstar winger Kirill Kaprizov to a major extension soon.
As of yet, there's been little movement on that front, but after the latest report from Wild reporter Michael Russo, it appears things are rapidly changing for Minnesota and their star Russian.
In that report, Russo reveals that the Wild have already offered Kaprizov a new deal, and with training camp on the horizon, the historic deal could get done very, very soon.
'I believe they've offered him a ton of money, even more than I thought. On an eight-year deal, they're willing to pay him even in the $16 (million) range. We'll see.'
That was followed up by Frank Seravalli recently reporting that he believes Kaprizov's deal will get done before training camp, with the Wild wanting to lock in a home-grown star that they can build around for years to come.
As of right now, we don't know exactly how much Kaprizov's next deal will be worth, but as of the latest reports, it's speculated that it could be worth $16 million per season, which would make Kaprizov the highest paid player in the National Hockey League.
This comes on the back of two season's in which he tallied 96 points in 75 games played and 56 points in 41 games played, and with people like Connor McDavid, Auston Matthews and Cale Makar all set to hit free agency soon, this deal along with the rising salary cap could change everything.
The deal isn't done yet, but all signs are pointing towards Kaprizov being officially signed soon, and if it is as rich as expected, the entire landscape of the NHL may soon shift.
