Injured Oilers forward Zach Hyman provided an update today on his injury and long-term status, and his comments have sparked worry within the fan base.
Edmonton Oilers forward Zach Hyman sustained a dislocated wrist in Game 4 versus the Dallas Stars during the playoffs last month.
Hyman believes there's a chance he'll be ready to return by training camp in September, but he can't say for certain, according to Masters.
'I don't even know what the timeline is, to be honest, but that's definitely not out of the question'.- Zach Hyman
Stars forward Mason Marchment caught Hyman with an awkward hit in the first period of Game 4 of their series during the playoffs, which caused the injury. Hyman immediately left the game.
Oilers captain Connor McDavid was the first teammate to comfort Hyman after his injury, he said, according to TSN's Chris Johnston.
Hyman underwent surgery to repair torn ligaments in his wrist, Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch announced the day after Game 4 on May 28.
The 32-year-old still had a large brace on his right wrist when speaking to the media today at the 6th annual Zach Hyman Golf Tournament, just like it did last month, showing no signs of any progress.
Hyman netted five goals and 11 points in 15 playoff games this year, and he led the postseason with 111 hits at the time of his injury. He tallied 27 goals and 44 points in 73 regular-season games.
The Oilers won Game 5 in Dallas despite Hyman's absence, and following that victory that sent them to the Stanley Cup Final, the team FaceTimed him in the locker room, a move that brought Hyman to tears.
The Oilers ultimately lost the Stanley Cup Finals to the Florida Panthers in six games.
