Zach Hyman was injured just before the Stanley Cup Finals, and now he's revealed just how heartbreaking it was to watch the series following his injury.
The Edmonton Oilers made the Stanley Cup Finals for the second time in a row this past season, but unfortunately, they once again ran into the juggernaut Florida Panthers, who soundly defeated them in six games this time around.
While there are many things that could have gone differently that may have changed the outcome, none were a bigger 'what if' for the Oilers than the injury to star forward Zach Hyman.
In 15 games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Hyman tallied 5 goals and 11 points, but in the Western Conference Finals against the Dallas Stars, he suffered an injury that would rule him out for the remainder of the post-season.
Now, in an interview at Olympic Orientation camp, the Oilers veteran has opened up on just how hard it was for him to watch his team for the remainder of the post-season as they went to battle with their new Stanley Cup Finals foe.
It was miserable. It's very horrible, very hard. No matter what you're stressed whether you're up or down. You have no control. You're helpless. At the same time you're trying to keep it all together and be supportive for the guys who are playing. So when I wasn't around them I was a stress case, and when I was I just tried to be an emotional support system, anchor for those guys.
Fortunately for Hyman, he's set to get back to 100% early in the 2025/26 campaign, and if the Oilers can find their groove again, in a wide open Western Conference, there's no reason why they can't get their third shot at the Stanley Cup Finals this upcoming season.
