Zach Hyman missed the Stanley Cup Finals due to injury, and now he's revealed he may not be ready for the Oilers 2025/26 regular season opener.
Over the past few seasons, there have been few wingers in the NHL who have been more consistent than Zach Hyman, who has dominated alongside Connor McDavid, tallying 117 goals in his three seasons with the Edmonton Oilers to date.
Unfortunately, the team would lose him in the Stanley Cup Playoffs due to a wrist injury in a Mason Marchment collision, as he was made to watch the team fall in the Stanley Cup Finals from the sidelines.
In a recent interview, Hyman gave an update on his wrist injury, and while things are progressing well, he noted that he may not be healthy and available for the season opener against the rival Calgary Flames.
'Will I be ready for the start of the season? I don't know. But I'm on the right track, which is good. The fact that I don't know is a good thing because it could be, 'No I'm not.' I have one more meeting with the surgeon to wrap it up, which is great.'
If Hyman were to start the season on the sidelines, it would be a major blow for Edmonton, who parted ways with Corey Perry and Evander Kane this off-season, meaning they need the grit and netfront presence that Hyman brings to the team.
Ultimately, if he does miss some time, it's expected that he'll be back fairly early in the season, and if he can get back to 100% to give this top-six the boost they need, this will be a genuine Stanley Cup contender once more.
