The Montreal Victoire hosted the New York Sirens on April 1 for their second-to-last match of the 2024-25 Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) season. The Sirens took the victory 1-0. The Sirens now lead the season series with three wins to the Victoire’s two.
With just over five minutes left in the first period, Kati Tabin laid a dirty hit on Jessie Eldridge. It was direct contact to the head, and Eldridge was slow to get up. She made her way down the tunnel with help from the staff and immediately went to be evaluated. Hopefully, she is alright. Tabin received a five-minute major for an illegal check to the head. She also received a game misconduct and did not return to the game.
The Sirens didn’t score on the power play, but just 12 seconds before the end of the first period, they scored. Gabby Rosenthal won the faceoff and passed the puck to Jade Downie-Landry behind her. At the edge of the faceoff circle, Downie-Landry took a shot to give the Sirens the lead as the first period came to a close.
In the second period, the Sirens outshot the Victoire 15-4. While the Sirens couldn’t find the back of the net, they were still leading by one at the end of the second.
The third period was full of penalties, with each team taking three. Eight minutes into the third, Sarah Fillier and Mariah Keopple each took a seat for roughing. Neither team scored a jailbreak goal to spring their teammate from the box, and play went back to 5-on-5.
Just under three minutes to go, the Victoire pulled Elaine Chuli for the extra attacker. With 1:16 left, Allyson Simpson took a seat for holding. Despite Montreal having six players on the ice compared to the Sirens’ four, they couldn’t find a scoring chance. The Sirens took the victory 1-0.
The Sirens and Victoire will play again after the PWHL returns from their break for the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) tournament. The Sirens will be back in action on April 26, when they travel to take on the Minnesota Frost. The Victoire will also play on April 26, when they take on the Ottawa Charge at TD Place.
