New York Sirens Defeat Minnesota Frost 4-1

The Minnesota Frost and New York Sirens faced off for the fifth time this season on Sunday, Mar. 6. The Sirens had won three of those first four meetings and looked to gain some major postseason points with another win. The Frost had their lineup intact, while the Sirens were without Ella Shelton, as she was injured in their game against the Montréal Victoire on Mar. 13, according to the FanDuel broadcast.

The goaltending battle was between Nicole Hensley for the Frost and Corinne Schroeder for the Sirens. The game started out evenly, but the Frost found the back of the net first, and the Sirens fought back. They kept the lead and took the win 4-1.

Game Recap

The Frost scored first with a power play goal by Grace Zumwinkle to give their team a 1-0 lead early in the game. Sophie Jaques and Brooke McQuigge assisted her. The Sirens answered a few minutes later to tie the game 1-1 on a goal by Jaime Bourbonnais. Jessie Eldridge and Abby Roque assisted her. The momentum continued their way as Paetyn Levis scored to make it 2-1. Sarah Fillier and Lauren Bernard assisted her and ended the period with the lead.

The second period continued in the Sirens’ favor as they added another goal. Eldridge recorded their third goal of the game, and Brooke Hobson and Bernard assisted her to make it 3-1. That was the second period’s only goal despite some strong chances for the Frost.

The third period followed the same routine as the second, as the Sirens tallied the period’s only goal. It was an empty netter recorded by Sarah Fillier; Micah Zandee-Hart had the lone assist. That was the game’s final goal, and the Sirens took the 4-1 win.

The Frost will have the next 10 days off before they return home on Wednesday, Mar. 26, to host the Victoire after being on the road for nearly a month. The Sirens will be back in action on Wednesday, Mar. 19, on the road against the Toronto Sceptres.
