Florida State pauses basketball activities, postpones three games due to COVID-19

The Boston College Eagles won't have to play through a coronavirus-related crisis early this week after all.

On Monday night, the ACC confirmed that the No. 20-ranked Florida State Seminoles are going on pause because of a positive COVID-19 test result, subsequent quarantines and contact tracing impacting the team. As a result, Tuesday's game against Boston College, Saturday's showdown at the Pittsburgh Panthers and a Feb. 9 matchup against the Virginia Tech Hokies are all postponed.

The ACC added that any makeup dates for those contests will be announced at a later time.

Boston College was on the verge of having only four scholarship players available for Tuesday's game against Florida State because of COVID-19 protocols. Instead, Eagles head coach Jim Christian will hope to have at least some missing members of his squad back for Saturday's contest versus the NC State Wolfpack.

"Our administration made the decision that the game needs to be played," Christian said on Monday about having to face Florida State on Tuesday. "They know how I feel about it, but once that decision is made my job is to get these guys ready. To let you know, we've spent the last two days trying to teach five guys our basic defense and offense so we could play Florida State on Tuesday night. [School administrators] know my opinion. It's not easy to do. It's a tough situation. I don't think anybody in the country has attempted to do that."

Florida State dropped to 10-3 overall and 6-2 in conference play via an upset loss to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets last Saturday. The Seminoles are next scheduled to host the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Feb. 13.
