Report: Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell 'incensed' after being held out of playoff opener

Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell was reportedly "incensed" after the team scratched him before Sunday's Game 1 against the Memphis Grizzlies, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst and Tim MacMahon.

Utah's decision reportedly "deepened tensions" with Mitchell regarding his recovery from a right ankle sprain, ESPN adds.

Mitchell recently returned to practice and said he was "ready to go" after Sunday morning's shootaround, but the Jazz's training staff recommended he remain on the sideline.

The 24-year-old was supposed to miss just one week after spraining his ankle in mid-April against the Indiana Pacers, though his recovery timeline keeps getting pushed back.

The Jazz are hopeful Mitchell will be ready to go for Game 2 after more rehab and testing. However, ESPN reports that Jazz part-owner Dwyane Wade might need to help mend Mitchell's relationship with the team.

Mitchell had the best season of his career this year, averaging 26.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game while shooting 43.8% from the field and 38.6% from deep.

The Jazz lost 112-109 to the Grizzlies in Game 1 without their leading scorer in the lineup.
