Potential No. 1 draft pick's media session canceled following arrest warrant

Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter's NFL Combine media session was canceled Wednesday, minutes after news broke that an arrest warrant was out for the 21-year-old.

The warrant is for Reckless Driving and Racing and stems from the fatal crash that took the life of a teammate and Bulldogs staffer in mid-January. Carter was scheduled to meet with reporters at 10:30 a.m. ET.

According to Seth Emerson of The Athletic, both charges against Carter are misdemeanors.

Carter has been projected as a top-five pick in April's NFL Draft and could go No. 1 overall.

While some reports said that Carter had left the combine on Wednesday morning, Andy Staples of The Athletic tweeted at 11:02 a.m. ET that an official said the prospect was "still in the medical testing area."

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart released a statement late Wednesday morning on the situation.

According to an Associated Press and ESPN report, the news of the warrant came out hours after The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Carter was present at the scene of the Jan. 15 crash and later provided "shifting accounts" of the incident to police.
