Former LSU star endorses Tigers' pursuit of Hailey Van Lith

Hailey Van Lith visited LSU's campus on Tuesday as she decides where she'll play basketball next. 2023 national champion and recent WNBA Draft pick Alexis Morris is fully on board for the potential pairing.

Morris starred for the Tigers in this year's NCAA Tournament, helping lead the program to its first basketball national title. She came up particularly huge in the fourth quarter against Iowa when she scored 15 of her 21 points as LSU set the record for most points scored (102) in a national title game.

The Tigers return NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player Angel Reese, as well as Flau'jae Johnson, Sa'Myah Smith, Kateri Poole and Last-Tear Poa. If Van Lith heeds Morris' advice, LSU will be set up for another deep run next March.

Van Lith was named to the first-team All-ACC the past two seasons. In 2022-23, Van Lith averaged a career-high 19.7 points per game. In 13 career NCAA Tournament games, she averaged 18.1 points per game on 47 percent shooting and has eight consecutive 20-point games.

Morris also isn't the only former Tiger on board with the potential transfer portal addition. Former football safety Tyrann Mathieu also tweeted his support of a Van Lith-LSU pairing.

Van Lith first declared at Louisville in 2019 after also considering Baylor, LSU head coach Kim Mulkey's former school. When Van Lith entered the portal, the Tigers emerged as a favorite to land the star point guard, and visiting LSU's campus won't quell those rumors.

Mulkey turned the program around in a remarkably short amount of time, and an incoming No. 1 recruiting class will likely keep the Tigers at the top of the pecking order.

ESPN's way-too-early Bracketology for the 2023-24 season has LSU as a 1-seed, and that's without Van Lith in the mix.
