LeBron James recruiting for Team USA's 2024 Olympic roster

LeBron James is ready to suit up for Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and he's calling on some of his most talented friends to join him.

According to the report by Joe Vardon and Shams Charania of The Athletic, King James' court of recruits include Los Angeles Lakers teammate Anthony Davis, Draymond Green and Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics and Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns. The report adds that Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers, De'Aaron Fox of the Sacramento Kings, Devin Booker of the Suns and James' former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate Kyrie Irving (now with the Dallas Mavericks ) all have "serious interest" in committing to the tournament.

Regardless of what array of superstars end up playing for the Americans in France next summer, it'll be Warriors head coach Steve Kerr serving in the lead role. The 57-year-old was named as Team USA's head coach in December 2021, taking over for longtime San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.

If James ends up playing in Paris, it'll be his first time competing at the Olympics since the 2012 London Games.

Kerr led the Americans to a disappointing fourth-place finish in the recently concluded FIBA World Cup. The squad didn't feature any of the aforementioned veteran players though, being mostly led by up-and-coming twentysomethings.

The two oldest players on the roster were 28-year-olds Bobby Portis and Josh Hart, but the roster also included rising stars like 2022 No. 1 overall Paolo Banchero, Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Anthony Edwards, Indiana Pacers All-Star Tyrese Haliburton, Defensive Player of the Year Jaren Jackson Jr. and Lakers guard Austin Reaves . The team was captained by New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson.

The United States, Australia, France, Japan, South Sudan, Canada, Germany and Serbia have qualified for the 5-on-5 basketball tournament at the Olympics. The Germans captured first at the FIBA World Cup, while Serbia took second and Canada placed third.

While Team USA's potentially stacked roster should give it a great chance at winning a straight gold medal at the Olympics, it will face stiff competition.

Canada is riding high after defeating Team USA in the third-place game at the FIBA World Cup and boasts NBA talent like Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Houston Rockets Second-Team All-Defender Dillon Brooks.

Though Slovenia was knocked out in the quarterfinals (by Canada), it still has four-time All-Star Luka Doncic representing the nation and could make noise next summer if it can qualify.

Greece is another team that hasn't qualified, but when two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo announced in August that he wouldn't be taking part in the World Cup, he said it was his "goal" to play in the 2024 summer games. If the Greeks get in, and Antetokounmpo is on the roster, they're a contender.

While France finished a disappointing 1-2 and was eliminated in the first round of the World Cup, it's hoping things will be different when it play in front of what is sure to be a raucous crowd in its home country. The team is led by one of the best big men in the NBA in Rudy Gobert of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

If King James can gather most or all of his reported recruits, Team USA will yet again be the heavy favorite. Notably, next year's tournament will mark the 20th anniversary of one of the most infamous American men's basketball squads in history, when the Americans had to settle for the bronze medal.
