Braves offense seems to finally be breaking out of prolonged slump

Make that three straight games with at least six runs scored for the Atlanta Braves.

It's a streak that may turn out to be insignificant in the long run, but for an offense that has struggled mightily to produce consistent results over the last month-and-a-half, anything is better than nothing.

The Braves certainly weren't in dire straits — at least, not based on the rest of the league — but for an organization with World Series aspirations, a losing record in the month of May simply wasn't going to cut it. With a pitching staff that had been red-hot to start the year also starting to cool down, Atlanta needed the high-flying offense that lit up scoreboards in 2023 back in service.

While the Braves did lose their recent series against the Baltimore Orioles, hope was found in the series finale, a 6-3 victory where both pitching and offense finally complimented each other enough for the Braves to break a five-game losing streak.

With the win bringing their record to 36-30 — not a horrible mark, but below the standards expected by many in the Braves organization — taking the "one game at a time" approach seemed to be the best bet for a team in need of a factory reset with the summer heating up. With the Tampa Bay Rays coming to town for a three-game weekend set, the Braves have continued their mini hot streak, putting up seven and nine runs, respectively, in the first two games of the series.

While securing a series win is always nice, Atlanta finally finding offense that isn't solely produced by Marcell Ozuna is the biggest positive to be gleaned from the weekend. Regardless of how Sunday's series finale plays out, the weekend should be considered a massive success for a team that didn't look worthy of a playoff spot for much of the last six weeks.

One weekend won't tell the tale of the Braves' 2024 season, but for now, consistent offense and a three-game winning streak leave fans with plenty to smile about halfway through June.
