Watch: Denmark's Christian Eriksen nets goal at Euro 2024 three years after suffering cardiac arrest

Three years after suffering cardiac arrest, Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen has returned to the European Championship and is netting goals.

In Denmark's opening match against Slovenia in Group C, Eriksen gave the Red and Whites a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute. The crowd erupted after the goal, and his teammates embraced him.

On June 12, 2021, at the European Championship, Eriksen collapsed on the turf in Denmark's first match vs. Finland. Per the Daily Mail, he underwent CPR for 13 minutes and received a shock from an AED before he was taken to the hospital.

Doctors later gave Eriksen an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), which prevents cardiac arrest by discharging a jolt to restore a regular heartbeat.

In an amazing comeback, Eriksen starred for Denmark in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and played every minute before it was eliminated in the group stage, via The Sporting News.

In a Euro 2024 warm-up, Eriksen scored the winning goal in a 2-1 victory against Scandinavian rival Sweden. The match was held at Parken Stadium in Denmark, the same place where Eriksen suffered his cardiac arrest. At this point, it's hard to write a better script.
