Ryan Day is assembling quite the all-star team in Columbus, if you ask a couple of former Buckeyes head coaches.

There has been talk this season about the strength of the Ohio State football team entering 2024. The team reportedly spent over $20M building the roster, and that has produced results.

10TV sports reporter Adam King shared a video on Tuesday that included comments from former Ohio State football head coaches Urban Meyer and Jim Tressel raving about this year’s team.

“As of now, this is one of the most talented rosters in the last decade. Maybe ever,” Meyer said. “That’s a big statement. They gotta play, but you look at the quality of athlete at every position, I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Tressel added similar thoughts.

“I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that many great players in that building all at once. Every position, every place you turn. So Ryan’s done a great job, Ohio State’s done a great job,” Tressel said.

That’s some extremely high praise, and it’s coming from some reliable sources.

Meyer coached the Buckeyes from 2012-18 and won double-digit games each season, including a national championship in 2014. Some of his rosters were loaded. Tressel coached Ohio State from 2001-10 and had eight double-digit win seasons plus a national championship.

If anyone would know what a stacked Ohio State team looks like, it’s Meyer and Tressel. For them to say what they said about this year’s Ohio State team is some extreme praise. Now it’s up to Day and the Buckeyes to put all their NIL/transfer additions to work and live up to the expectations.

The Buckeyes have gone 11-2 each of the last three seasons, including an 8-1 record in Big Ten play. Each conference loss has come to rival Michigan.
