Los Angeles got in a hole early as starting pitcher Walker Buehler struggled through four innings. He gave up seven earned runs, raising his ERA to 5.84.
The Dodgers, although down, kept chipping away at the score. Home runs from Shohei Ohtani and Andy Pages helped keep the Dodgers within reach.

The game went to the ninth inning with the Dodgers down by five runs against reliever Tyler Kinley. Los Angeles was able to load the bases with one out to bring up Jason Heyward off the bench.
The 13-year veteran crushed a slider off the right field foul pole, bringing the Dodgers within one run.
Colorado then brought in reliever Victor Vodnik.

Ohtani and Freddie Freeman both got on base following Heyward's blast to bring up Teoscar Hernandez.
After getting into a 1-2 count, Vodnik threw a 100 mph fastball that was above the zone that Hernandez started to swing at, but first base umpire Lance Barksdale said he checked his swing.
On the very next pitch, Hernandez smacked a fastball the opposite way 423 feet to give the Dodgers their first lead of the night, 11-9.
They ruled this a no-swing and then Teoscar Hernández went yard on the next pitch

Hernandez told reporters after the game that he thought his check swing could’ve gone either way, but he didn’t think he went.
Per Elias Sports, the last time the Dodgers overcame a deficit of five-plus runs in the ninth or later was July 18, 1957 vs. St. Louis.
