Aaron Rodgers, Trevor Lawrence ahead of Jordan Love in recent top-100 list

Despite missing almost the entire 2023 season, 40-year-old New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is still viewed as one of the 20 best players in the NFL heading into the 2024 campaign, at least according to a list recently shared by CBS Sports' Pete Prisco.

Earlier this week, Prisco shared his annual list of the top 100 players in the NFL. In the latest version, he not only has Rodgers ranked 20th, but his ranking is significantly higher than the guy who the Green Bay Packers chose as his replacement, Jordan Love.

Love showed up on the list in the No. 87 spot behind 13 other quarterbacks, including Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers (ranked 85th), Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions (76th), Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins (65th) and Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars (62nd).

Believable arguments can be made for Purdy, Goff and Tagovailoa ranking ahead of Love. But it's a little harder to understand how Lawrence landed 25 spots higher on the list than the current Packers quarterback.

Compared to Lawrence last season, Love finished with more passing yards and passing touchdowns, fewer interceptions, a higher passer rating and a better offensive grade from PFF. The Green Bay quarterback also helped lead his team to the divisional round of the playoffs, while Lawrence and the Jaguars failed to qualify for the 2023 postseason.

Prisco believes the Jacksonville signal-caller will have an "MVP-type of season" in 2024, which helps explain why his ranking is higher than Love and several other notable quarterbacks who were more successful than him last season.

But what exactly leads Prisco to believe Lawrence is more capable of having an MVP-caliber performance next season than Love?

In the final eight weeks of the 2023 season, only Purdy and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott threw more touchdown passes than the 18 Love tossed. During those eight weeks, the Green Bay starting signal-caller also only threw a total of three interceptions.

As for Lawrence, he tossed an unimpressive 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions in the final eight weeks of Jacksonville's 2023 season.

Love proved a lot of people wrong with his performance in 2023 during his first full season as the Packers' starting quarterback. Based on Prisco's recent rankings, however, it seems like Love is still going to have plenty of doubters to quiet next season.
