Angel Reese sets WNBA record in Sky's blowout win over Wings

Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese recorded her seventh consecutive double-double in an 83-72 win over the Dallas Wings on Thursday, the most by a rookie in WNBA history.

The former LSU star recorded her 10th rebound off a Chennedy Carter miss before putting the ball in the basket to give Chicago a 51-35 third-quarter advantage.

Reese finished the game with 16 points and a career-high 18 rebounds. She shot 7-of-13 from the court and now has 151 rebounds through 14 games.

Per Across The Timeline, only Yolanda Griffith (177), Tina Charles (176) and Chery Ford (152) have recorded more rebounds through their first 14 WNBA games than Reese.

The 2023 NCAA Tournament's Most Outstanding Player was a rebounding machine in college and she's been just as dominant on the boards in the pros.

Reese ranked first in total rebounds in the Big Ten while at Maryland in 2021-22 and led the country in rebounds at LSU the following season. Her 14.4 rebounds per game while with the Tigers are the most in SEC history.

She's excelled in the pros on the offensive glass, with a 16.6% offensive rebound rate entering Thursday, the highest in the league according to Her Hoop Stats. With eight offensive boards against the Wings, she has 68 on the season, which only trails Griffith (78) for the most in a rookie's first 14 games.

Overall, Reese's 19.4% rebound rate is the second-best rate in the W. Her 10.8 rebounds per game rank third.

After the win over Dallas, Reese talked about her performance.

"I'm just happy we finally won," said Reese, putting the team above her own accomplishments when asked what her double-double record meant to her. The Sky (5-9) entered Thursday on a four-game losing streak.

"I try to give myself some grace and tell myself I'm doing a good job," Reese continued.

Only four rookies (Cindy Brown, Griffith, Ford, Charles) have finished a season averaging a double-double in points and rebounds. Reese is on pace to be No. 5.

"I just want to do whatever it takes to win," Reese added. "And rebounding is what I do to win."
