Rob Van Dam wants to run it back with AEW's veteran stars

Rob Van Dam has been in the wrestling business for decades. He is a legend of WWE and ECW and now works with AEW on occasion. In the latest episode of his "1 Of A Kind" podcast, Van Dam explained why he would like to run it back with Chris Jericho, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage.

"If we had say, RVD versus Edge, RVD versus Christian, RVD versus Jericho, I’ve had some outstanding matches with all of those guys," Van Dam said. "And I have no doubt that if we were to get in the ring again, it would be f-----g outstanding."

Van Dam's first few matches in AEW have been tied to the FTW championship. He has shared the ring with Hook on a couple of occasions, but Van Dam has noted that he prefers to work with wrestlers from his generation. He explained how the younger wrestlers have adapted their processes, which can lead to a difference in creative opinion.

"They change a few things, do a few things that wouldn’t be acceptable before. You know, they’ve adapted. Maybe they’re going to want me to do a couple of moves that I think are stupid, or don’t make sense. I’m going to have to talk them out of it."

Despite his stellar reputation within the industry and his status as a true legend, Van Dam isn't the draw he once was. He can no longer do the flurry of breathtaking moves he once could, but the notion of him taking on Jericho or Copeland would certainly entice the over-30 crowd to tune in. That would be a match born out of nostalgia and could be a strong ratings pull.

AEW has been experiencing stagnation. Its TV ratings and audience are falling, and a potential nostalgia match or run of matches could give the company the jolt it needs to get back on track. Whether Van Dam would be willing to sign a multi-match deal remains to be seen, but his willingness to discuss the concept is certainly encouraging.

After all, you can never have too many legends on your roster.
