NASCAR Cup Series qualifying at New Hampshire canceled, Chase Elliott on pole for USA Today 301

Rain has officially canceled NASCAR Cup Series qualifying at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

NBC Sports reports that NASCAR is drying the track before holding a short practice session before Sunday's USA Today 301.

2020 Cup Series champion Chase Elliott will start on the pole for Sunday's race, while Iowa winner Ryan Blaney will start on the front row. William Byron, Christopher Bell and Alex Bowman rounded out the top five.

Joey Logano and Martin Truex Jr. will start sixth and seventh, respectively, with Ross Chastain, Brad Keselowski and Josh Berry rounding out the top-10.

Other notable starting spots for Sunday's race include Denny Hamlin in 14th, Bubba Wallace in 17th, Kyle Larson in 19th and Kyle Busch in 30th.

Kaz Grala and Ty Dillon will start 35th and 36th, respectively, making up the 18th and final row for Sunday's race.

After the rains kept away from New Hampshire during Saturday's Whelen Modified Tour race, it seemed that Cup Series practice and qualifying could've had a small window in which to take place. Unfortunately, qualifying fell victim to the New England precipitation.

A short practice session is still possible with NASCAR trying to dry the track. If a potential practice session were to be canceled, the first laps both driver and car would make on the racetrack would be in the race itself.

NASCAR has also decided to move up the start of Saturday's NASCAR Xfinity Series race at New Hampshire, moving the green flag time to 3:06 p.m. ET rather than the originally scheduled 3:35.

A decision to move the start of Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series to Monday would likely come on Sunday, though a decision to move the start time of Sunday's race back 24 hours would have to be made on Saturday afternoon.

All weekend coverage for the Cup Series and Xfinity Series can be found on USA Network, PRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio and the NBC Sports App.
