NASCAR driver disqualified after Xfinity Series race at New Hampshire

Matt DiBenedetto might have driven his way to a 17th-place finish in Saturday's Sci Aps 200 at New Hampshire, but post-race inspection made his efforts all for naught.

The NASCAR veteran was disqualified following Saturday's Xfinity Series race, relegating DiBenedetto's No. 38 team to a 38th-place finish. Three lug nuts were found loose on the right rear tire upon inspection, with DiBenedetto falling victim to the same rule that got Corey Heim disqualified after the Truck Series race at Charlotte on May 24.

While DiBenedetto was already ineligible for the Xfinity Series championship by virtue of failing to start all the races, the disqualification did drop the No. 38 car to 33rd in the owner standings when they would've been 30th.

DiBenedetto will run the rest of the Xfinity Series season in the No. 38 car for Viking Motorsports. In 11 races, he has recorded a pair of top-10 finishes and an average finish of 22.5, completing all 11 races on-track.

DiBenedetto will try and bounce back from the disqualification next Saturday at the Nashville Superspeedway, the next stop on the Xfinity Series calendar. In his one earlier Xfinity Series start at Nashville in 2010, DiBenedetto finished 10th in the No. 20 car for Joe Gibbs Racing. DiBenedetto also has a Cup Series start at Nashville in 2021, where he finished 24th, as well as two Truck Series starts at Nashville, where he finished 31st and seventh, respectively.

The Tennessee Lottery 250 will start shortly after 5 p.m. ET on June 29. Coverage will be provided on USA Network, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
