Golf best bets: Jack Dougherty's outright picks for the Rocket Mortgage Classic

Anyone else in shambles this Monday morning? No? Just us? Not only did we have Tom Kim, who lost in a playoff to Scottie Scheffler, on our outright card for the Travelers Championship . We also bet Patrick Cantlay and Tony Finau, who were both in contention on Sunday and finished T5. Pain.

Coming off a devastating Sunday, let's try to get to the finish line with our three favorite outright picks for the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Min Woo Lee (+2200 BetMGM)

Lee has yet to win on the PGA Tour, but we're firm believers in his talent. This is the perfect opportunity for him to snag his first victory.

Detroit Golf Club is a course built for bombers, as evidenced by three of the last four winners being Tony Finau, Cameron Davis and Bryson DeChambeau. The golf course has thin rough and barely any trouble off the tee, so longer hitters have a huge advantage because they can bomb and gouge their way to easy birdie opportunities. Well, Lee ranks fourth on the PGA Tour in driving distance, second in total driving and fifth in club head speed.

You also need to putt well to win this tournament, and Lee's ceiling on the greens is as high as anyone's. The Australian struggled with his putter early in the season, but he's gained strokes on the green in five straight starts. Lee has the ideal skill set for this golf course. He's by far our favorite bet near the top of the odds board.

Taylor Pendrith (+4000 FanDuel)

Speaking of perfect fits for this golf course, let's move on to Pendrith.

Pendrith, like Lee, prides himself on his driving and putting. The Canadian ranks 15th on Tour in driving distance and fourth in strokes gained from putting. He's also playing with a ton of confidence right now, as the 33-year-old has a win and six top-25 finishes in his last eight starts. He's gained 17.8 true strokes from putting alone in his last four events.

Pendrith has played the Rocket Mortgage Classic twice. He finished T2 in 2022 and T14 in 2023.

Matt Wallace (+6500 FD)

Wallace isn't considered a bomber, but he's gained distance on the field in all but one of his PGA Tour starts this season. We like the Englishman's chances this week because he thrives in birdie fests, and the Rocket Mortgage Classic is typically won with a score in the mid-20s under par.

Wallace's best finish this year was a T4 at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson when Pendrith won at 23 under par. He also won the Corales Puntacana Championship last year with a score of 19 under par, and he finished T2 at the DP World Championship in November where the winning score was -21. Get Wallace in a low-scoring putting contest, and he's going to fare much better than he would on a demanding golf course.

The 34-year-old is playing his best golf of the season with three top-20 finishes in his last five starts, and he has two top-12 finishes in three starts at Detroit Golf Club.
