Dennis Powell, a crew member who works in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, has been suspended “from the next Championship Series event through and including Nashville Superspeedway,” according to Claire B. Lang. He is suspended for an axle infraction during the race at New Hampshire.
Powell works on the No. 42 Young’s Motorsports car. The infraction states there was a violation of Sections 10.5.2.5.G: Loss or separation of an improperly installed rear axle from the vehicle. Leland Honeyman drove the No. 42 car this past weekend and wrecked in the Xfinity Series race.
Honeyman, 19, is in his first season as a full-time Xfinity Series drive. He has not won a race yet but had a P4 finish at the Talladega race earlier this year.
“We’ve been asked about running Xfinity more than a few times over the years, and this time, it just made sense,” Young’s Motorsports team principal Tyler Young said, earlier this year, per Jayski’s Silly Season Site.
“Leland (Honeyman) ran the (ARCA) East Series for us in 2022, and he did a great job learning, giving feedback, and being competitive against several other established (ARCA) East programs. His efforts in the Xfinity Series this season show he’s continuing to improve and make the most of every opportunity he is a part of. We’ve already found success in the ARCA Series and have a blast working together. I look forward to taking this step with the Xfinity Series this season.”
“In 2024, I’m thrilled to be racing full-time for Young’s Motorsports in their newly launched Xfinity team,” Honeyman said in Janurary. “Joining them as they enter this exciting series, I’m confident about our collective potential for the upcoming season. The prospect of racing full-time in Xfinity adds an extra layer of excitement, and I can’t wait to contribute to our team’s journey and make our mark on the track.”
Christopher Bell, who won the Cup Series race in New Hampshire on Sunday, also won the Xfinity Series race on Saturday. “I was just really fortunate, that’s for sure,” said Bell of the race-winning pass on Sheldon Creed, per NASCAR.com. “I feel so bad for Sheldon. He’s been really, really close to winning these things and today he did everything right to win that race. He restarted in the right lane and gave Cole [Custer] a good push. And coming to the white flag, he got Cole loose and that’s what opened the door for me.
