Olympics betting: Team USA favored to win these three events in Paris

Earlier this month, Yardbarker took a look at what countries could challenge the United States for the most medals overall at the 2024 Summer Olympics. But what about the odds of them winning individual events?

With some help from FanDuel, we take a look at three events Team USA is favored to win in Paris next month.

Men's 100M: FanDuel is high on Noah Lyles making it to the winner's circle, listing him as the +170 favorite to take home the gold.

Lyles has six world titles and took home a bronze in the Men's 200M at the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo. This time around, he is boldly predicting a multi-medal showing. He tells Olympics.com he plans to "win four gold medals by adding the 4x400m relay to his repertoire at the global showpiece."

His big competition in the 100M will be Botswanan superstar Letsile Tebogo, who is listed at +470 at FanDuel to win the event in his Olympics debut. However, at +170 odds, backing Lyles looks like a good move.

Women's Soccer: The U.S. women's team took home the bronze in Tokyo and is looking to return to the top of the podium. FanDuel likes their chances of doing just that, listing them as +170 favorites.

Team USA had three consecutive gold medals heading into the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro when they were booted from the competition in the first knockout round to Sweden. Suffice it to say, expectations are high for them to get back on top.

Expect a redemption run from Alex Morgan and company on the international stage — especially against reigning gold medalists Canada. (They're listed at +2200 to have repeat success.)

Men's and Women's Basketball: This is the event where both the men's and women's teams are favored the heaviest. The men's U.S. team is a -390 favorite to take home gold with the next favorite being Canada listed at +850. The women's team is favored at -1800 with host team France listed next at +2900.

However, when you see how stacked these teams are, you'll understand why they're worth backing even at those extreme odds.

Once you get past the storyline surrounding Caitlin Clark not making the women's roster, you see two hoops squads ready to dominate over in Paris. Brittany Griner leads a star-studded women's team that includes WNBA stars like Sabrina Ionesco, Breanna Stewart and A'ja Wilson. This team has also combined for 15 Olympic gold medals, so it's really no wonder they are so heavily favored.

Meanwhile, Steph Curry and LeBron James highlight a star-studded men's team that includes Jayson Tatum and Jrue Holiday fresh off of winning the NBA title with the Boston Celtics. This is likely James's final Olympics before he retires, so fans won't want to miss this team in action — or miss out on backing them to win.
