Watch: Lightning strikes suspend Euro match between Germany and Denmark

Lightning struck in the Round of 16 game between Denmark and host country Germany, but it wasn't a result of any of the players on the field.

Storms rolled into Dortmund – where the Euro Tournament match is being played – and lightning strikes above the stadium caused officials to suspend the game after just 35 minutes of scoreless play.

Players left the pitch and returned to their respective locker rooms to wait out the storm, which began dropping hail on spectators shortly after the suspension of play.

The match resumed after a 25-minute delay, with Germany controversially prevailing 2-0 over Denmark.

They now advance to the quarterfinals where they'll face the winner of Spain and Georgia, who play Sunday.

The quarterfinals are set to take place July 5-6.
