Just a few months ago, there was a beef brewing between WNBA star Diana Taurasi and Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark. Now, the former has dropped a powerful take about the latter’s impact on the league during her first year playing as a professional.
A few months ago, a beef emerged between Clark and Taurasi. Clark, the Fever’s top pick in this year’s draft, has faced criticism from some veterans about her ability to replicate her prolific college scoring in the professional league.
Taurasi, known for her competitive nature and outspoken persona, made comments suggesting she would take Paige Bueckers over Clark in the draft, and that Clark’s college dominance against younger players won’t necessarily translate to the WNBA. This ruffled the feathers of many Iowa fans, who created “Don’t Be a Sheryl” t-shirts in response to similar comments from Sheryl Swoopes.
Taurasi further stoked the flames when she warned Clark and other incoming rookies that “reality is coming” and that they’ll be facing “grown women” who have played professional basketball for a long time. While some fans accused Taurasi of hating on the young guard, the veteran simply seems to be embodying her competitive spirit and desire to welcome newcomers to the league in her own unique way.
Just recently, the Indiana Fever faced Taurasi’s Phoenix Mercury as the former won their first match of the season. After the game, Taurasi shared her thoughts on the Indiana rookie and her impact on women’s basketball, as seen in a video shared by Desert Wave Media on X.
Diana Taurasi when asked about Caitlin Clark’s impact on women’s basketball:
“It’s amazing. What Caitlin’s been able to do in her short career so far has been nothing short of remarkable. The one thing that I really love about her … she’s put the work in. Even throughout her… pic.twitter.com/LolH8ioDjS

In that particular game, Clark dropped 15 points, nine rebounds, and 12 assists to lead the Fever to an 88-82 victory . On the other hand, the Mercury were led by Brittney Griner’s 24 points while Taurasi added 19 points and three assists.
Taurasi’s comments on Clark may have ended whatever beef that existed between the two. Hopefully, the both stars may continue to flourish in the coming years for the better of the sport.
