Japanese tennis ace and former World No. 1 Naomi Osaka is set to storm back into the top 100 of the WTA rankings following her first-round win against Diane Parry at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.
It will be the first time she breaks into the top 100 since her comeback following her maternity leave. While Osaka has been ranked as the World No. 1, her time away from the sport saw her tumble down the WTA rankings.
Osaka, who started the 2024 season ranked World No. 833, has worked hard to climb the rankings and is now set to breach the top 100. She took to social media to express her happiness about the same.
Guess who is back in the top 100. Also yes, this means a lot to me. Probably more this time around. Naomi Osaka wrote in her Instagram story
The 26-year-old will look to further boost her rankings by going as far as possible at Wimbledon.
Naomi Osaka is thrilled to have reached the second round at Wimbledon for the first time since 2018. Reflecting on her win against Diane Parry in the first round, she stated that winning in three sets would help her grow as a player.
Osaka also pointed out that Parry made her work hard for her 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 win.
I feel like today, honestly felt very hectic just because of the way she played. I felt that I had to constantly tell myself to be in control of the point. When she was slicing and stuff, it was a little stressful. I feel really relieved to have won this in three sets. I think it will do good for my character development. I guess I'm just excited to play my next match. Naomi Osaka said after her win over Diane Parry (H/T: Australian Open)
Osaka will next face Emma Navarro , who has been in good form this season. The 19th seed registered an emphatic 6-0, 6-2 win against Wang Qiang in the opening round.
