Watch: Turkey stuns Austria with second-fastest goal in Euro history

If Turkey holds on to win, it will advance to the quarter-finals to face the Netherlands on July 6.

Less than a minute was all Turkey needed to take a 1-0 lead over Group D winners Austria in their Round of 16 match Tuesday afternoon.

Turkish defender Merih Demiral smashed the ball from close range into the top of the Austrian net just 56 seconds into the match, right after goaltender Patrick Pentz scooped what was almost an own goal off his line.

Demiral's goal is the second fastest scored in Euro history and is just behind Albania's Nedim Bajrami, who scored 23 seconds in against Italy earlier in the 2024 edition.

If Turkey holds on to win, it will advance to the quarter-finals to face the Netherlands on July 6.
