While much of the talk surrounding the Lakers through the start of NBA free agency has been about the players they didn't land, the tides have shifted slightly in the past few days.
Los Angeles remains a constant talking point for analysts, media and fans, but the franchise has recently become the focus of conversations surrounding potential trades.
According to The Athletic's Jovan Buha, the Lakers have been active in trade talks with three specific teams: the Portland Trail Blazers, Brooklyn Nets and Utah Jazz.
The Nets have been rumored as a potential trade destination for D'Angelo Russell at times this offseason, so it would make sense on that front. The conversations with the Jazz are interesting, specifically if they are centered around big man Lauri Markkanen, a hot commodity or, at the very least, a popular name in the rumor mill.
The big question is the Trail Blazers and what those conversations could entail. Portland might be in the mix as a third team to facilitate a possible deal, but they also have an intriguing young group of talent at both the guard position and the frontcourt.
Time will tell, but the Lakers appear to be locked on making another move. Whether it comes to fruition or not could have a major impact on the team's outlook for the 2024-25 season.
