JJ Redick is the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. He has the unenviable task of returning the Purple and Gold back to being a contending team in the Western Conference. On Monday, Redick announced that he will be stepping away from the podcasting world.
"ThreeFourTwo is alive and well," Redick said in a post on X. "ThreeFourTwo will continue to operate. I'm going to have no involvement. My entire focus, right now, is on coaching the Los Angeles Lakers and making them the best possible team they can be."
“Everything we have done has been based upon a foundation of a love of the game of basketball, and going forward, everything that @ThreeFourTwopro will do without me will be based on that love of the game of basketball.”

Redick has been a mainstay in the media since ending his playing career. His "The Old Man and the Three with JJ Redick and Tommy Alter" podcast quickly became one of the most popular shows among NBA fans. More recently, he launched the "Mind The Game" podcast with LeBron James.
Rather than focusing on microphones and social media promotion, Redick will now break down plays and deliberate over substitution patterns. The Lakers' job is one of the highest-pressure roles in the NBA. He will be under the spotlight from the opening game of the season. As such, stepping away from his podcast company is a wise choice. It will help keep him out of the firing line when the team inevitably goes through a rough patch.
Fortunately for Redick, FourThreeTwo will continue to run in his absence. That will give him a valuable fallback option if things don't work out with the Lakers. ESPN would likely snap him back up to their panel shows, too. After all, Redick was a budding broadcaster before deciding he wanted to make the move into coaching.
For now, though, Redick must give his all to the Lakers. They've taken a gamble in giving him the head coaching job. There will be a lot of eyes waiting to see how everything plays out.
