"With regard to Dak specifically, at every turn here since 2019, since they've had the opportunity to take care of him, they have fumbled this. They have bungled it. They have gone about it incredibly inefficiently and made Dak a very wealthy person and good for him," Ochoa said. "It has been an exercise in mismanagement to the highest degree and there should be a class taught on this on how to not handle quarterback contracts."
The 30-year-old signal-caller is entering the final year of his four-year, $160M contract that he signed in 2021.
Prescott addressed his contract on Tuesday, saying that he wasn't concerned about the matter.
"There's been conversations back and forth," Prescott said, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. "But for the most part, for me as ya'll know, I'll let my agent do that, especially as we get right here into training camp."
Even if negotiations linger later into the summer, a holdout currently seems unlikely.
The three-time Pro Bowler said that once the beginning of training camp comes, his mind "flips to just helping my team and just doing everything I can within the organization and on the football field to make sure that I am my best and everyone around me is their best." He added that "the money and all of that will take care of itself as it always does."
Prescott is coming off a huge bounce-back 2023 season after being limited to 12 games but still tying for an NFL-high 15 interceptions in 2022.
The 2016 draft pick became the first quarterback in the Super Bowl era to lead the league in passing touchdowns (36) one season after leading the NFL in interceptions. Prescott finished with a career-high 105.9 passer rating and was second in the MVP voting behind Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.
