NFL Draft scouts reportedly not sold on Texas QB Quinn Ewers

When Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers decided to return to school for his junior season, seemingly everyone was in agreement he made the right decision.

Considered a mid-round prospect (Rounds 3-5) in a 2024 draft that was loaded at QB, Ewers has an opportunity to skyrocket up draft boards with an out-of-nowhere season that makes people take notice, similar to the one Jayden Daniels produced last year or Joe Burrow’s record-breaking 2019 campaign.

But as things stand right now, many scouts believe Ewers isn’t even a Round 1 talent, according to ESPN draft analyst Jordan Reid.

“He's an on-time and in-rhythm passer who can be a bit streaky, but he has a good arm and operates Steve Sarkisian's offense well as a true distributor,” Reid wrote. “…The first half of the Oklahoma game exposed his flaws (even though he finished with 19 straight completions). I'd like to see him tighten up his decision-making and mechanics. … I'm hearing primarily late-Day 2 or even early-Day 3 grades from scouts right now, but it's early.”

Though his numbers weren’t bad, Ewers showed streaks of inconsistency, spotty footwork, struggles with some deep balls and a tendency to give up on certain throws.
