The NBA has revealed its schedule (and a new logo) for the 2024 Emirates NBA Cup, the freshly re-branded second annual edition of the league’s in-season tournament, via a press statement.
Per the presser, the group play stage of games that count towards the tournament is slated to start being logged on Nov. 12, and will continue on successive Cup nights across a few more Tuesdays — Nov. 19, Nov. 26, and Dec. 3.
The 30 NBA clubs will be randomly allocated into five-team groups in their own conference, though the statement notes that win-loss 2023-24 season records will be part of that calculus. Each team will play the other four squads in its group once during the group play stage.
Single-game elimination knockout rounds for the top eight teams (three group winners and one wild card across both the West and East) are slated to commence on Dec. 10 and 11 in the quarterfinals phase of the tournament in the teams’ own normal markets. Winners will advance to the semifinals and championship round at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The 22 eliminated teams will play two assigned regular season games, one at home and one on the road, on Dec. 12-13 and Dec. 15-16. Quarterfinals losers will play each other during that same window.
Last year, the Lakers obliterated the Pelicans in the championship game, 133-89. All-NBA combo forward LeBron James paced L.A. with 30 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field in 23 scant minutes.
