We're through two windy rounds at the British Open, and some big names (Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau, Ludvig Aberg, Viktor Hovland, etc.) won't be joining us for the weekend at Royal Troon Golf Club. But we're focused on who will be on the course braving the elements on Saturday.
Let's lock in two bets for Round 3 at the British Open.
We usually target 2-way matchups with our specific round bets, but we're switching it up on Saturday.
MacIntyre looked to be on his way to a disappointing missed cut when he triple-bogeyed the short first hole on Friday and went 8 over through his first four holes. Sitting at +9 and well outside the cut line with the strong winds only picking up speed, the Scotland native made four birdies and no bogeys the rest of the round to scratch out a gritty 75 and make the weekend. That's the exact kind of momentum we're looking for in someone who can go low on Moving Day.
Just last week, MacIntyre shot a sizzling 63 on Saturday to get himself in contention at the Genesis Scottish Open. He followed it up with a 67 to win the tournament. MacIntyre has one of the earliest tee times on Moving Day, and Royal Troon is going to play the most scoreable all week with calm winds and no precipitation in the morning. Let's go low, Bobby Mac.
We're dying to fade Thomas on Saturday. Similarly to MacIntyre, JT struggled out of the gates in the second round with a 9-over 45 on the front 9. He wasn't able to control his ball flight through the wind and was playing out of the thick fescue for two hours. He turned it around with a 2-under 33 on the back 9, but one of his birdies came on a chip in from over a bunker. Through two rounds, Thomas ranks third in the field in strokes gained from around the green, but he's been terrible from off the tee and on approach. That's a bad sign heading into the weekend.
Harman, on the other hand, gutted out a 2-over 73 in the toughest conditions of the tournament. He's gained strokes from off the tee and on approach for the week, and he's always a threat to get scorching hot with the putter.
