Draymond Green explains why he's 'happy as hell' Klay Thompson left Warriors

While the departure of Klay Thompson was tough for many of the guard's former Golden State Warriors teammates, it unquestionably impacted Draymond Green and Stephen Curry more than anyone. The trio made up the foundation of the Warriors dynasty, and they watched as one of The Splash Brothers opted for a fresh start.

But from the sound of it, Green is well aware there was more to Thompson's decision than basketball, which is why he's "happy as hell" his longtime teammate is gone, as he explained on the "Club 520 Podcast."

“I’m happy as hell he gone. The reason I’m happy he’s gone is because he wasn’t happy no more. As a brother, I only want what’s best for you, not what’s best for me, not what’s best for this team," Green said.

Green mentioning Thompson's unhappiness isn't all that surprising, but it's the first time it's been discussed publicly. Considering the reports on how the contract negotiations between the 34-year-old and the Warriors played out, it's easy to understand why Thompson could feel slighted by the team that selected him No. 11 overall in the 2011 NBA Draft.

Thompson will now join Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving with the reigning Western Conference champion Dallas Mavericks, where he'll have plenty of opportunities to face his former team.
