French rugby star Antoine Dupont helped lead the host country of the 2024 Paris Olympics to gold in rugby sevens with a dominant win over Fiji on Saturday.

France won the gold medal match, 28-7, with Dupont playing a significant role for a national team that failed to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics held in 2021 and entered as the underdog.
Fiji won the teams' previous meeting in the group stage and entered 17-0 in rugby sevens at the Olympics, including winning gold in 2016 and 2021.
Rugby sevens was first played at the 2016 Olympics, and the French team finished seventh, going 3-3.
On Saturday, Dupont had a game-high 10 points on two tries, turning a tight 14-7 game into a rout.
With the win, Dupont added a gold medal to an illustrious career.

Dupont, a star in 15-a-side rugby, joined the French rugby sevens team in January, forgoing the 2024 Six Nations to try to bring home the gold for the Olympics host country.
Per Olympics.com, the team finished ninth in the first stage of the 2023-24 World Rugby SVNS Series in December. It improved after Dupont's addition, finishing fifth in the men's league standings, including a win over Great Britain at the 2024 USA Sevens in Los Angeles.
Already a star in Europe, Dupont showed an international audience why he's arguably the world's best rugby player.
